The Waldorf movement started in Estonia in the beginning of the 90s, when the idea of alternate forms of education reached Estonians through experiences in European schools.
The first Estonian Waldorf schools were opened on parents´ initiative in Rosma (1990), Tartu (1990), Viljandi (1992) and Aruküla (1992).
In 1994 Tartu Maarja School was founded for children with special needs.
In 2001 Tallinn Free Waldorf School opened its doors, today the school has 6 grades.
In the autumn of 2010 the Aruküla Free Waldorf School opened its Gymnasium and now together with Tartu Waldorf Gymnasium offers a possibility of Waldorf education in upper grades.
Waldorf schools are supported by several Waldorf kindergartens and the “Tartu Seminar of Waldorf Pedagogy”, which is giving courses for teachers.
The Waldorf movement in Estonia is united and guided by the “Estonian Free Waldorf schools’ and kindergartens’ Association”. The Private Shcool Läte became the member of this association in march 2010.
